Judges voice concern at attempt to ‘gag judiciary’ - Catherine Baksi & Jonathan Ames

The storm in the Judiciary is brewing as the Government Whistleblowing Framework Review commences. Nevertheless, we remain optimistic that this review will deliver transformational changes, repeal PIDA, and give everyone, including Judges, the full protection of the law against retaliation and discrimination when they speak up. Attempts to curtail the perilously narrow protects hard won by District Judge Claire Gilham must be stopped. The public need an independent, free thinking and unvarnished judiciary if there is to be any belief in this or future government promises to transform whistleblowing protection.
